More colleges become STEM Assured

Three more colleges have just received confirmation that they have attained the coveted STEM Assured quality mark, issued by the New Engineering Foundation. Cornwall College, Forth Valley College and South West College join the growing ranks of colleges across the UK to achieve the demanding science and engineering standard.

The standard recognises excellence in STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths) provision within the Further Education sector, with a particular focus on industry relevance and embedding STEM skills across a range of learning areas. Read more about STEM Assured here

STEM Assured is a UK-wide quality standard recognised by the UK Commission for Employment & Skills (UKCES) and The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). The award reflects a College’s determination to be at the forefront of STEM provision and meet the needs of local and regional employers.

Linda McKay, Principal of Forth Valley College, commented:
“We already have an excellent track record for delivering forward thinking education and training for the science and technology industries and we’re delighted to be the first further education organisation in Scotland to receive the nationally recognised STEM Assurance. The robust validation process offers an excellent way to benchmark the quality of the provision we offer and confirmed we have a clear and comprehensive STEM strategy." For further reaction from Forth Valley, please click here

Meanwhile the Principal of Cornwall College, Dave Linnell, commented: “We are thrilled to receive this status. We have been working hard to raise awareness of STEM in local schools and the community. Students studying these subjects can seize some wonderful opportunities that can lead to fulfilling and interesting careers.” The full news story from Cornwall College is here
