The Scottish Minister for Employability and Training, Jamie Hepburn, officiated the conferment of the STEM Assured Status by the STEM Foundation on Edinburgh College on the eve of the Scottish Government announcement its STEM strategy. The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to the creation of STEM nation in Scotland to inspire enthusiasm for STEM among all sectors of society to drive employability and equality for all. He highlighted the need for strengthening the delivery of STEM education, addressing unconscious bias and gender stereotyping, and ensuring the development of skills that meet employers’ needs. Mr Hepburn said: “Development of a strong STEM Manifesto at the college will support the young and help them progress into STEM careers.”
Edinburgh College Principal Annette Bruton said: “We are honored and pleased to receive the prestigious STEM Assured Award. This award reflects the hard work of our teachers, students and stakeholder in making Edinburg College an attractive place to study and enable progression to the worlds of work and higher education. Today’s launch of Edinburgh College’s STEM Manifesto confirms our pledges to our commitment to the STEM agenda. Our drive for improvement to deliver excellence remains unwavering!”
