The Defence Digital Innovation (DDI) team has been accredited as Investor in Innovations organisation by the Institute of and Knowledge Exchange Innovation (IKE Institute). The Investor in Innovations aligned to the ISO 56002 Innovation Management System guidance recognised the role of DDI in creating military advantage through innovation by applying a systemic approach to innovation management, instilling a culture that is pro-innovation, embracing an open innovation ecosystem and accelerating promising innovations from idea to solution into the hands of the user, quickly and affordably.
Head of the Innovation Team at Defence Digital said: “we are so delighted with this recognition as it validated our approach to innovation to enable us to grow our innovation portfolio with confidence, thus informing, connecting, and shaping our strategic priorities in such areas as digitising the battlespace, strengthening cyber defence and becoming data-driven enterprise to support our decision-making processes. Our interactions with users throughout the different military domains and our collaborations with innovative SMEs, universities and research organisations, amongst others, have enriched our approach to innovation. The Investor in Innovations Standard aligned to ISO 56002 has provided us with the independent benchmark that will reinforce our innovation mission and direction of travel. I take this accreditation as a strong recognition of the commitment and efforts of all our colleagues, partners and stakeholders who have made this achievement possible, particularly in the current circumstances of COVID-19.”
Professor Sa’ad Sam Medhat, IKE Institute Chief Executive said: “Whilst it is still a relatively young organisation, the Defence Digital Innovation team has demonstrated through this validation process, its organisational readiness to scale up digital innovations and act as a force-multiplier for underpinning our military capability, at pace. This rigorous accreditation process included a Validation Panel of c-suite executives drawn from the Innovation Council, which provided a thorough action plan for driving innovation further within Defence Digital’s strategic mission. So, may I congratulate the Defence Digital Innovation team and the wider Defence Digital Function on this excellent achievement.”
