Assuring the quality of skills provision in the nuclear sector remains to be a national priority. Research Sites Restoration Limited (RSRL) is the latest nuclear Site Licensed Company to achieve the NEF Assured (Nuclear) Standard. RSRL is contracted by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to decommission nuclear facilities and manage radioactive waste on its Harwell and Winfrith sites. RSRL’s training and development strategy is driven by a number of inputs which include safely and legislative requirements, business objectives and emergent business needs, competency requirements of all staff, and succession planning. Achieving consistency in training across multiple sites and functions was a key determinant when applying for NEF Assured (Nuclear) said Ian Wilson RSRL’s HR Skills Manager, he commented “the NEF Assured process has helped RSRL to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate value from the training and development function. The process was robust but expedient”. Recognising staff training on the National Skills Academy for Nuclear's Passport was the other driver for RSRL. The Validation Team has focused on the technical and safety training and identification of effective and innovative practices.
