STEM Assured Awards

In October news, we mentioned that Nelson and Colne College had become STEM Assured, and they celebrated by holding an event  where they recieved the award.  Prince Andrew unfortunately had to post-pone his attendance at the event in October, however, on 30 November, HRH The Duke of York managed to visit the College to formally unveil a plaque acknowledging the college’s new STEM Assured status.

Since then, we have had another outstanding college receive this prestigious title:  Furness College.

Furness College is the first college in Cumbria to become STEM Assured and is the leading provider for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in the area.  They have invested heavily in future technologies through their £43 million campus bebuild due for completion in June 2013.  Anne Attwood, Principal at Furness College said: “Furness College is delighted to have been awarded STEM Assured status by NEF. We recognise the importance of STEM related subjects both for the local and national economy and that is central to our strategic planning. This award is confirmation of our commitment to work with employers to meet their training needs and to provide our learners with the skills and personal qualities for future employment and prosperity. We are particularly proud that our innovative approach to technological research has been acknowledged as leading the sector. This could not have been achieved without the dedication and expertise of our staff and I commend them.”
