A college first for Highbury recognised Investor in Innovations

Highbury College is the first educational provider to successfully achieve the Investor in Innovations Standard. The Standard enables the participating organisation to benchmark its innovation capability, culture and consistency of delivery against a universal framework. The process enables the development of an action plan to continuously improve the organisational innovation capability.

Highbury College Principal and Chief Executive Stella Mbubaegbu CBE said: “achieving the Investor in Innovations Standard assured our direction of travel at the college and provided us with invaluable external views to generate value-add to our students, employers and the community at large.  The process has also provided us with a structured approach to integrate and sustain innovation within our activities and to transform our thinking for the future. “

The Investor in Innovations Validation Panel commended the college’s approach to innovation. The industry-led panel also highlighted the immersive ‘real-life’ teaching experiences and the empowerment of students through encouragement of learner-led activities. The Panel also recognised the use of champions in the promotion of ideation to stimulate innovation across disciplines and functions.

Prof Sa’ad Medhat, NEF: The Innovation Institute CEO said: “We are delighted that Highbury College excelled its outstanding status beyond just the OFSTED rating.  It demonstrated that innovation is part of its DNA.  Achieving the standard means that as an Investor in Innovations’ college, it will be able to attract better students and staff talent as well as differentiate its position with employers to win business and strengthen community engagement.”
