Digital Technologies for Engineering and Construction

Date: 19 May 2015 : 10:00 - 16:00

Digital skills are core requirements for modern engineers; some of these are embedded and transferable, such as IT for business and planning, others are highly specialist skills closely related to their engineering specialism, such as CAD and BIM for design.

This event will cover a range of digital technologies and applications in various branches of engineering, but the focus will be on those technologies and concepts, such as cloud computing and “Big Data” that will shake our fundamental understanding of how we will work in the future.

This session is ideal for:

  • Curriculum leaders in construction, engineering and IT
  • Lecturers and Lead Teachers in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Maths

This Masterclass is being made available by City & Guilds as a CPD event for teachers and lecturers of the C&G Engineering Techbac and Construction for the Built Environment Techbac. Please advise NEF if you are a C&G Techbac provider.

About the event

EMC will be welcoming delegates to their HQ in London based near Chiswick, London. The host will offer delegates a chance to find out about the future digital technologies that impact much of industry, such as cloud computing and “Big Data”. Cybersecurity will also be touched upon.

EMC customer sectors include manufacturing and building and EMC experts from these business areas will be presenting on their view of the requirements for digital in these sectors. Customer experts will be invited to discuss other areas of digital technologies such as CAD, BIM, virtual reality, and the requirement for digital skills.

The Host

EMC Corporation (EMC²) is an American multinational corporation which offers data storage, information security, virtualization, analytics, cloud computing and other products and services that enable businesses to store, manage, protect, and analyze data. With 60,000 employees, it is considered the world’s largest provider of data storage systems.

In 2012 and 2013, EMC was included on a number of award lists, including the World's Most Admired Computer Companies, Top 100 Global Innovators, and Best Multinational Workplaces in Europe.

BENEFITS

  • Delegates will be given direct contact and link up to specialists nationally and internationally
  • The Masterclass carries 6 CPD points
  • Participants receive a NEF Certificate of Achievement
  • Masterclass participation can be used towards the professional registration of CPD with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
