Atkins awarded NEF Assured standard

Atkins, one of the world's leading engineering and design consultancies, has been awarded a top training quality mark in recognition of its staff development activities in its work for the nuclear industry.

‘NEF Assured (Nuclear)’, issued by the New Engineering Foundation, is a specialist, industry-wide assurance programme which measures the standard of a company’s training activities against rigorous and independently-assessed criteria. Atkins’ nuclear division was given the award last week following a final inspection from the validation panel of experts in the nuclear and training industries.

Among the many excellent areas of training practice that Atkins demonstrate, their integrated HR system ‘MySkills’, which facilitates competency assessments and supports internal talent development, was highlighted as “An exemplar in the sector”.

The New Engineering Foundation’s Dr Matthew Shelley, who managed the Assurance process, said:
“In an industry where rigorous standards of skills training are absolutely paramount, Atkins demonstrates a commendable approach; within the sector they are actively supporting the wider skills agenda. MySkills and other initiatives such as the Atkins Training Academy reflect and promote a healthy commitment to innovation.”

Atkins Managing Director of Nuclear, Chris Ball, said:
“We are genuinely excited by the opportunities in the global nuclear industry and want to ensure we have the best people to service our existing and new clients both in the UK and worldwide. The award of the NEF Assured standard is testament to our commitment to developing the best processes and tools to support this.”

Jean Llewellyn OBE, Chief Executive of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear commented:
“We are proud to welcome Atkins as part of our High Quality Provider Network as an employer assured provider. The NEF Assured (Nuclear) is an outcome focused standard recognised by the Skills Academy and is the first step in enabling member organisations to have in house training aligned to employer-led and agreed Industry Standards on the Nuclear Skills Passport system.”
