NEF Prepares for Innovisions 2013

Are you creating the next game-changer?

Innovation is an important differentiator in highly competitive markets. It has become a more sophisticated function that is mandated by organisations. However, to achieve and maintain innovative cultures and practices requires leadership commitment to continuous improvement and contemporary management systems.

The Innovisions 2013 conference will be held at the Institute of Directors, London on December 5, and is sponsored by EDF Energy Campus.

Professor Sa’ad Medhat, CEO of NEF The Innovation Institute, said: “Whether you are a company, educational provider or a public sector organisation, the common thread that joins all is that standing still is not an option!

“The race to innovate, the search for talent, and, the quest for new markets defines today’s global business environment. Innovation, a key differentiator in competitive markets, is an increasingly sophisticated function, mandated by many successful organisations. Yet achieving and maintaining innovative cultures and practices requires leadership commitment, contemporary management systems and aligned workforce capabilities.”

Innovisions 2013 will provide a participative rich environment for industrial and academic leaders and policy makers to share views on how to create the next game-changer in order to drive growth and productivity.

Innovisions 2013 is an “Inquiry” style conference, providing a platform to discuss views and challenges pertaining to current issues in innovation and knowledge. Keynote speakers include the CEO of Crossrail, the President of DuPont Europe, Middle East & Africa and the Director of EDF Energy R&D UK Centre.

In addition, a showcase of innovation in learning and development will be presented by EDF Energy Campus, the sponsor of the conference.

Dave Drury, Chancellor of EDF Energy Campus said, “Promoting innovation and collaboration is at the heart of EDF Energy Campus, so we are delighted to sponsor Innovisions again this year and share with you some of the developments we are working on that will change the game for us.

“Campus is an innovative and inspirational investment by EDF Energy in our future, connecting us and creating new learning and development opportunities for everyone.”

Conference details:

Innovisions 2013 will include two special sessions, ‘Innovation in Business’ chaired by Jeremy Webb, Editor of the New Scientist, and ‘Innovation in Education’ chaired by Sarah Campbell, Education Correspondent of the BBC. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with the Panel and contribute to the Inquiries which will be illuminated by the contributions of other business, academic and policy leaders from BASF, EDF Energy, Jaguar Land Rover, Britvic, EMC2, MBDA, Bosch, BT, Costain, Rolls-Royce, Manchester Metropolitan University, Coventry University, Highbury College, NHS, University of Chester and Activate Learning Group.

As we enter the next generation in innovation, concepts, goals and the face of science, engineering and technology are rapidly changing. The aim of these Inquiries is to share ideas and inspire others to create the innovation engine to address some of today’s challenges and questions such as: Where is the next smart opportunity for business growth? How do you stimulate innovation at all levels to ensure a sustainable and scalable innovation pipeline?

The conference will also feature the announcement of the Innovation Award Winners in Business, Education and Public Policy and will be presented by Dr Maggie Philbin, TeenTech CEO and BBC Journalist, Presenter and Broadcaster. The Innovation Awards, conferred by a panel of industry experts, influencers and leaders, are designed to recognise and celebrate the very best in UK innovation. It is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to celebrate their innovation and gain recognition for the role they play in inspiring and motivating others. The winners will contribute to a culture of generation innovation which will help promote sustainable growth in the UK.

Innovisions 2013 is an opportunity to engage with senior business and academic leaders to exchange ideas and to discuss ways in which to shape and accelerate innovation. Whether you have attended Innovisions in the past or are new to the conference, this is an event not to be missed.

  1. EDF Energy

EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and the largest producer of low-carbon electricity, producing around one-sixth of the nation's electricity from its nuclear power stations, wind farms, coal and gas power stations and combined heat and power plants. The company supplies gas and electricity to more than 5.5 million business and residential customer accounts and is the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in Great Britain.

EDF Energy’s safe and secure operation of its eight existing nuclear power stations at sites across the country makes it the UK’s largest generator of low carbon electricity. EDF Energy is also leading the UK's nuclear renaissance and has published plans to build four new nuclear plants, subject to the right investment framework. These new plants could generate enough low carbon electricity for about 40% of Britain’s homes. They would make an important contribution to the UK’s future needs for clean, secure and affordable energy. The project is already creating business and job opportunities for British companies and workers.

In its nuclear activities EDF Energy has partnered with Centrica, which has a 20% stake in the company’s eight existing plants and in the project carrying out pre-development work for new build. Centrica also has the option to take up to 20% stakes in each of the four planned plants.

Through Our Sustainability Commitments, EDF Energy has launched one of the biggest environmental and social programmes of any British energy company and the company has since been awarded the highest ranking of Platinum Plus in Business in the Community’s 2011 Corporate Responsibility Index, the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility.

EDF was the official electricity supplier and an official partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also helping its customers and others use energy more sustainably through products and initiatives such as Team Green Britain, real time energy monitoring and electric vehicle research.

EDF Energy is part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. The company employs around 15,000 people at locations across the UK.
