Innovative Workshop Skills

At this Masterclass the company will be demonstrating industry standard and educational tools to support colleges in ensuring their facilities for engineering, manufacturing and product design, are up-to-date and their teaching of practical skills is fit-for-purpose.

This is a bespoke one-day continuous professional development (CPD) event designed to support curriculum leaders and lecturers from the further education (FE) sector in the delivery of fit-for-purpose skills that meet the needs of industry.

Colleges have told NEF that an event at Axminster Tools & Machinery is highly recommended. They have been lauded for their wonderful demonstrations of the best and latest workshop machinery, tools and techniques. This event will be held at the company’s headquarters and will feature many demonstrations and chances to try out tools and equipment.

What the day will look like

9:30 - Registration Tea and coffee provided

10:00 - Welcome, introductions and about NEF

10:10 - Introduction to Axminster and the venue

10:30 - Drawing Design

10.45 - A demonstration on Axminster’s latest manual engineering mills and lathes

11.45 - An overview of Axminster’s CNC lathes and mills – ideal for education and training

12:45 - Lunch

13:30 - The group is split into two – one group will be taken on a tour of the premises and the other group will be taken to our engineering department to look at production on large industrial machines

14:30 - The groups will swap

15:30 - Open Discussion. Issues and implications for colleges and teaching and learning. Q&A and feedback

16:00 - Close of day

  • Lecturers and assessors in engineering, including mechanical/ manufacturing /production, control & instrumentation, electrical & electronics
  • It will also be of interest to facilities managers to support in decision-making over new equipment and tools at colleges
