New College Telford Stands Out with STEM Assured

Industry often favours employing those graduating learners that possess more rounded STEM technical knowledge and skills- they are the technicians and technologists of the future workforce. This is why New College Telford wanted to become a STEM Assured College and make their STEM students standout.

STEM Assured is an industry-designed, outcomes-based standard. It uses a robust framework that promotes innovation in design and delivery, strengthens engagements with employers and learners, and above all, it assesses the impact of a college’s STEM learning.

Garry Phillips, Principal and CEO at New College Telford, said: "We are delighted to be recognised for the college’s strengths in Science, Technology and Maths through this quality mark, which all the team here have worked hard to achieve. Our bright and ambitious students want to become the leading engineers, scientists, IT and finance professionals that are much needed in the UK economy and worldwide.

"Working towards the STEM Assured standard has been a very worthwhile process. As one of the leading sixth form colleges in the Midlands, we have the teaching, facilities and resources that deliver the skills that are in demand by the students and their future employers. The STEM Assured process has helped us to reaffirm our approach to strategic investment and shaped future curriculum planning”.

Prof Sa’ad Medhat, the Institute’s CEO said: "The STEM Assured’s External Validation Panel commended the College’s innovative approaches to pioneering the improvement of vocational education within a traditionally academic environment. The College’s ambitious initiatives to change the landscape of STEM in the region are clearly demonstrable and are worthy of recognition. By gaining STEM Assured, the College has set a clear benchmark for investing in and supporting the development of STEM sector occupations."
