Upcoming Masterclasses

BOOK NOW TO GUARANTEE YOUR PLACE

We are pleased to announce 3 new Masterclasses taking place over the next couple months:

  • Energy Transmission and Distribution: 19 February 2013
    National Grid, Eakring Centre

This Masterclass is designed to give an overview of the current energy distribution systems focusing on the gas and electrical grid. The National Grid will be discussed with regards to its conception, development to date, current reinforcement work and potential conversion to a smart grid in the future. Day-to-day control and maintenance issues will be learnt through practical activities at the National Grid training centre. The vast scope of work planned in the redesign of the grid will be considered with regard to the workforce skills needed to implement.

  • Rapid Food Testing Technology: 21 February 2013
University of Chester's reputable Riverside Innovation Centre

The University of Chester has key expertise in nanotechnology relevant to food. Relevance to industry will be stressed throughout the workshop and industry experts will be at the event to speak of current practice in industry. Rapid testing technologies provide an opportunity for cheap, simple, on-site testing in the workplace by staff with limited technical expertise.

  • Welding and Fabrication: 19 April 2013
    The Welding Institute and AWFTE

This masterclass will highlight both new and existing technologies in welding and joining techniques. The skills shortage in this field is reportedly one of the biggest facing UK engineering companies and it is limiting growth.  Industries seriously in need of these skills include manufacturing, communications and offshore energy, including oil & gas and renewable power.  Colleges therefore have the opportunity to meet direct employer need and attract more engineering students by introducing welding technologies into their curriculum.

  • Innovation in Agriculture: 10 July 2013
    NIAB's Innovation Farm

This masterclass will look at innovation in the key sector of agriculture and the impact on the future requirements for training and development in this area, including how FE Colleges can ensure their provision addresses the needs arising from new techniques in farming, in particular plant genetics and crop management.
