Innovation at MBDA Missile Systems
MBDA Missile Systems welcomed 2014 with a high octane innovation session delivered by NEF’s Innovation Team to mark their Inaugural Innovation day.
The NEF Team were armed with a number of new tools and techniques that were used to support creative problem-solving and identify opportunities for new differentiated offer. The session focused on how to achieve performance excellence for growth, and it used the NEF’s ‘Innovation Escalator®’ model to create two minimum-viable-product scenarios in just 60 minutes!
MBDA participants, from senior directors and supply chain managers to technology specialists and apprentices, formed “InnovationTeam X” which represented different functions, levels and locations – and used Design Thinking to identify where change could best be invoked.
Mike Osborne from MBDA’s Industrial Policy and Supply Chain Management Group said: "
As an engineering led company, innovation is equally important in business process areas as much as it is in the technology and engineering areas. The NEF’s innovation session was extremely invigorating. A major impact that it had on me was in terms of how quickly you can address an issue and really focus on coming up with outcomes using the NEF tools and techniques. I will be seeking ways to weave these processes in to improve our interaction with the supply chain."
MBDA has successfully achieved the IKE Accreditation. This accreditation process validates employees’ innovation skills and competencies, benchmarks the company’s innovation training programme and provides an active vehicle for employee engagement. IKE Accreditation also provides successful participants of the accredited programme with Professional Certification and Membership of the Innovation Institute.
