Building capacity and capability in emerging technology at technician level is important to minimise the disconnect between the technological change and the ability of colleges to provide training and education in these areas.
FutureTech is a programme, supported and funded by Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), to provide FE staff in applied science, engineering and technology with e-resources in key subsectors where there exists a demonstrably significant skill shortage. FE staff thereby will:
FutureTech will feature e-induction packs in the following areas:
Each module will provide STEM lecturers, teachers, tutors and trainers with:
- An exposure to new technology areas to gain a broad-based understanding in the subject;
- An appreciation of how to handle such technologies;
- Identification of technical competencies required to produce and maintain such technologies.
FutureTech e-induction packs will be delivered as part of an integrated STEM component within generic teaching and learning content, thus forming a powerful dual professionalism resource for FE teachers, tutors and trainers.
FutureTech will be launched through the LSIS Excellence Gateway website in Spring 2010.
